Autumn in St. Lambrecht – Enjoy a holiday in Styria

Summer is still showing itself at its best. With temperatures of 27 degrees, sunshine and long days, we’re naturally not yet thinking about autumn. On the contrary: we’re enjoying summer here in St. Lambrecht to the full.

But perhaps now is exactly the right time to start thinking about your next holiday. After all, the autumn half-term will be here before you know it – and autumn in Styria has a charm all of its own.

As the first leaves begin to change colour, the woods around the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park slowly turn shades of golden yellow, orange and red, and the air grows clearer, the atmosphere in St. Lambrecht also changes.

Things are calming down. The long summer holidays are over and the great outdoors is inviting us to spend a bit more time outside again.

Whether you’re going away with the family during the autumn half-term holidays, planning a long weekend or simply want to unwind for a few days in the mountains: St. Lambrecht is a wonderful holiday destination at this time of year.

Autumn holidays in St. Lambrecht – experience nature

The Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park offers plenty of opportunities to explore nature at any time of year. In autumn, however, the landscape takes on a particularly atmospheric quality.

Forests, meadows, moors, ponds and mountains make up the varied landscape around St. Lambrecht. It doesn’t always have to be a long mountain hike.

Even short walks are lovely. A path through the woods, leaves rustling underfoot and perhaps a few rays of sunshine filtering through the trees – sometimes that’s all you need.

One lovely option is the Stifts round walk. This circuit, which is around 3.2 kilometres long with an elevation gain of about 80 metres, is a pleasant walk and is also suitable for families and anyone who prefers to take it a bit easier whilst on holiday.

Anyone who enjoys longer walks and is in reasonably good shape can, of course, head higher up and enjoy the view over the autumnal landscape.

What is there to do in St. Lambrecht during the autumn half-term holidays?

There’s plenty for families to discover in St. Lambrecht, too. And your holiday doesn’t have to be planned down to the last detail.

Walking through the woods together, collecting leaves, going for a short walk or simply spending time outdoors – children, in particular, don’t need a packed programme of outings every day whilst on holiday.

And what if the weather doesn’t play along?

The weather in the mountains can be changeable, particularly in autumn. Sunshine can alternate with rain or cooler temperatures.

Of course, that’s no reason to let your day off go to waste.

At Pension Lambrecht, we have our popular play area for this very purpose. Here, children, teenagers and, of course, adults can really let off steam or play together.

Our play area offers, amongst other things:

  • Billiards
  • Darts
  • Table football
  • Air hockey
  • Pinball
  • Pac-Man
  • PlayStation 4
  • Wii
  • Table tennis

That way, a rainy day quickly turns into an enjoyable day out. And whilst the children play, the adults can make themselves comfortable in our conservatory.

After all, for us, this is also part of a successful holiday: the weather doesn’t always have to be perfect.

The Benedictine Abbey and the Abbey Gardens

Culture is also part of a holiday in St. Lambrecht.

The Benedictine Abbey of Sankt Lambrecht is situated in the heart of the nature park and this year celebrates 950 years of history.

A guided tour of the abbey is a particularly lovely option when the weather isn’t ideal for walking. During the autumn and winter holidays, guided tours take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10 am; special times apply on public holidays.

The abbey garden is also well worth a visit. With its changing colours and the special light, the garden takes on a completely different atmosphere in autumn.

If the weather isn’t on our side

Autumn in the mountains can be quite varied. Sunny days alternate with cooler days, mist or rain – and sometimes you might even see the first snowfall.

But that’s all part of a holiday in the mountains, too.

When the weather’s unpleasant, you could, for example, take a trip to Murau, visit a museum or simply take it easy for a change.

And, of course, our games room at Pension Lambrecht is also at your disposal. Whether it’s a game of billiards, an exciting game of darts, air hockey, table football or a round of Pac-Man – you won’t get bored here, even when the weather’s bad.

Sometimes, though, a rainy day is just the right opportunity to have a leisurely breakfast, have a coffee, read a book or make yourself comfortable in our conservatory.

Autumnal outings around St. Lambrecht

If you’re travelling by car, there are many interesting destinations in the region that you can reach from St. Lambrecht.

One lovely place to visit, for example, is the Graggerschlucht. The ruins of Steinschloß Castle also combine nature and history.

And, of course, a trip to Murau itself is well worth it. This historic town is just a few kilometres from St. Lambrecht and is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day out.

This makes a stay with us a wonderful way to combine nature, culture and short excursions.

Back at Pension Lambrecht after a day’s holiday

After a stroll through the woods, a hike or a day out, it’s lovely to return to a cosy spot.

At Pension Lambrecht, you’ll enjoy a peaceful stay on the outskirts of St. Lambrecht, whilst still being very close to the town centre and the abbey.

Our conservatory, with its view of the abbey, is the perfect place to wind down and relax at the end of the day.

And if the children haven’t had enough of playing yet, our play area is of course waiting for them.

Breakfast will be waiting for us the next morning – and afterwards, you can decide on the spur of the moment what you’d like to get up to on this new day of your holiday.

A day in St. Lambrecht can take many different forms: a walk through the autumnal woodland, a trip out into the surrounding countryside, or simply a quiet morning spent relaxing.

Genau das macht für uns den Reiz eines Herbsturlaubs in St. Lambrecht aus: Sie müssen nicht ständig etwas unternehmen.

You can.
